Introduction
Hello, and welcome to clapclap.org, my new site. Every week there will be one longish new post, and then if there are other things to be said, they will follow in shorter posts (like this one). The site will generally not be updated during the week; new content will appear only on Thursdays, but there will be something new every Thursday.
I should probably say something about myself and where this is all going if you're not familiar with my old site, clap clap blog. I started that site as a writer who did not get paid and then because of it became a writer who does get paid, so I will post links to pieces I've written if there have been any published that week. These will almost all be about music, but the pieces on this site will range more widely. As in the above piece, there will be stuff about politics, and this will usually be linked to culture. There will also be posts just about art--mainly music, TV, and movies--and these will not explicitly be political. You are encouraged to leave comments and debate things. If you're interested in my tastes, you can find yearly top-10s on Flagpole and P&J. Everything else will presumably come out over time, but feel free to ask.
My name is Michael Barthel but I have been known to go by "Eppy." I am currently living in Brooklyn and working as an accountant. I produce music by myself and play it with other people, although I don't have a band that's currently active. I will occasionally refer to "Miss Clap," who is a real person, but for privacy reasons I try and avoid using her real name. If you want to send me music, feel free, but as I am focusing here on longer pieces of cultural criticism rather than regular music critic stuff, there's not a huge chance I'll write about it, although I may continue to make posts like that on the aforementioned old site. This policy can change at any time.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you.
